How much functional reserve do you have?
Functional reserve is the capacity you have above the threshold needed to stay independent. Six simple self-tests show how far you sit above published thresholds for low capacity, loss of independence or falls risk, and where you stand against age- and sex-matched norms. The results combine into one reserve view, and are meant to be repeated every quarter.
The six tests
Grip strength
A hand dynamometer squeeze — a widely used marker of overall strength.
30-second chair stand
How many full stands you complete in 30 seconds.
5× sit-to-stand
How fast you can stand up five times from a chair.
Usual gait speed
Your everyday walking pace over 4 meters.
Single-leg stance
How long you can balance on one foot, eyes open.
VO₂ max
Enter an estimate (from a lab test, or a device) to compare aerobic fitness.
